2007 Ruf CTR-3

Exactly 20 years after the original CTR, German tuning house RUF has announced the introduction of its third generation CTR3 coinciding with the launch of its new plant in Bahrain. The latest version will be one of the fastest Porsches on offer when it’s released.
RUF has utilized racing technologies first seen on its 911-based RT12 offering. Powering the CTR3 is a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat six engine pumping out 700 bhp at 7,000 rpm with torque topping out at 657 lb-ft. To save weight its developers added several unique body panels made from lightweight carbon-fiber as well as a new lattice tubing spaceframe.

Drive is sent to the wheels via a six-speed sequential manual gearbox that allows the CTR3 to hit 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 235 mph. Braking is done through 15-inch discs and 6-piston calipers front and rear. When the original CTR was released in 1987, it out-performed many of the supercars of its era including cars like the Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach and even Porsche’s own 959. The CTR3 is set to do the same but won”t come cheap as pricing is expected to fall at just over $500,000.

Epsilon 2

The Buick guys did it right, moving the 2010 LaCrosse over to this 'bad boy'. Available all-wheel-drive and a direct injection V6? Yes, please. This is the kind of thinking that will turn Buick into the Lexus-fighter it wants to be.
If Pontiac adopted the Epsilon II, it could beef up the suspension and then we have a performance-minded AWD midsize with good fuel economy (What's that? Focused and fuel efficient?). Eventually they could even offer it with a stick, and maybe even a hybrid. Insanity! Pontiac breaking the rules and providing a fun-to-drive hybrid would really put them on the map again, giving the G8 an appropriate little brother. Now that's exciting.
While we're putting good cars on modern platforms, could we maybe stretch out Epsilon 2 for the next Impala? Absolutely. Chevy would lose its V8 options, but sacrifices must be made. The SS could even return one day in turbo V6 guise, a la the Taurus SHO. Hey, if GM wants the V8, they should use the damn Zeta platform as originally planned. This brings me to my next point.

Lamborghini Diablo

Diablo means “Devil” in Spanish, and the car stands true for its name. Introduced in 1990 by the Italian manufacturer, it became famous all around the world, mainly due to celebrities that acquired one (what a waste…).
Design: Just like the Ferrari F40, the initial versions of the Diablo were pretty spartan and focused on performance alone. Late in the 1990s, however, the car gained some softer lines and better interiors.

Performance: The first Diablo packed a 5.7-litre engine, capable of an output of 492 bhp. It could go It goes from 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4,1 seconds, and had a maximum speed of 202 mhp (325 km/h).

Chick Factor: High. Let’s be honest here, if you can afford a Lambordhini Diablo you won’t have much trouble getting chicks around

the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder

In a bit of old news, the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder has been proclaimed the World’s Most Beautiful Car for 2005, in the sports car category. The Spyder beat out the Aston Martin V8 Vantage by a mere 2 points…should’ve been more.
The L’automobile pi?la del mondo award, as it’s called in Italian, is organized and run by
Automobilia. Winners in other categories are listed.
The Spyder is heavy at 3461 lbs; it’s 5L V10 engine produces 520 hp, for a PWR of 6.7 lbs per hp…good, but not great

Toyota Prius

Auto Express has learned that Toyota is considering naming an entire range after its hi-tech hybrid car - in the same way as it created the Lexus badge for its most expensive machines. Sources say the company is planning to launch three new dual-power models, starting in 2009. Currently, Toyota engineers call these cars the Prius A, B and C. The A will be a Yaris-sized supermini and the B is planned to be a compact hatchback similar to the current Auris. Meanwhile, the C will be a family model in the same class as the Avensis. Although Toyota cars will continue to have their trademark conservative styling, launching a new Prius range would allow top brass at the firm to give their petrol-electric vehicles a more adventurous look. The new family's styling is likely to be heavily influenced by the Hybrid X concept car, which was unveiled for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

A company insider confirmed: "The exterior design won't be as controversial as that of the first-generation Prius. However, the intention is for these cars to stand out from the crowd. We need to strike a balance between a shape that's attractive and has room under the floor for the hybrid system's batteries, plus space for five people and their luggage." Engineers have apparently ruled out making a hybrid people carrier for now because they have been unable to accommodate the batteries in a design that buyers would expect to feature a flat floor. This could change with the use of new compact lithium-ion battery technology.

Honda Jazz Best Supermini

The Jazz continues to hit all the right notes in the supermini category. It has now won four consecutive titles in this

Compact dimensions and great visibility make it a fine town car, while the large cabin and tall roofline mean it’s an ideal family runaround
sector, and our judges couldn’t look beyond last year’s overall winner because the model simply gets better with age.

You can now snap up the practical five-door with average miles from around £4,500, and as every year passes, there are more cars to pick from. Better still, the solid build quality, hard-wearing cabin and excellent reliability we’ve come to expect from the brand haven’t diminished.Compact dimensions and great visibility combine to make this a fine car around town, while the Tardis-like interior and tall roofline mean it’s ideal as a family runaround. The smart rear seats can also take large loads without having to be folded flat. And while the Jazz’s chunky good looks aren’t the most exciting on the forecourts, they’ve barely changed since its introduction in 2001 and haven’t dated at all.Critics will argue there’s no diesel option, but the original 1.4-litre petrol unit can hit 48mpg, while the 1.2-litre engine – which arrived in 2004 – can touch 51mpg, so the need for an oil-burner is questionable. With three trim levels (S, SE and Sport) and only two engines, it’s hard to buy the wrong Jazz, because they’re all good. There’s even a CVT automatic if you prefer, although there’s nothing wrong with the snappy five-speed manual that comes as standard. The self-shifter commands a healthy premium of around £500 second-hand. However, watch out on entry-level S models, as they’ll only have air-con if it was specified as an extra. Compared with rival superminis, the Honda Jazz can appear expensive, but you can bet the Japanese car will be worth more when you come to part with it. Factor in an excellent dealer network, and you’ll understand precisely why our judges’ decision to pick the Jazz was one of the quickest and easiest of the entire awards.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4

Driving and riding in a classy and expensive vehicle is usually taken as a status symbol. Super luxury cars have been here after Karl Benz got that first patent for a motorwagen in Germany in January 1886. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the car that currently holds the title of being the fastest, most powerful and most expensive production car in the world with a price tag of $1,700,000. But, the scenario is going to change (in terms of pricing, not speed) as DiMora Motors have announced the production of a US $2 million luxury car. Here, I have compiled a list of top 10 luxury cars coming your way. Check them out.

Mitsuoka Orochi

It looks as though it’s from another planet, but this outrageous supercar is Japan’s answer to Ferrari’s finest! If you want to really stand out from the crowd, nothing comes close to the Mitsuoka Orochi.Believe it or not, the two-door uses both Honda and Lexus parts, but its bespoke bodywork makes it unlike anything else on the road. Mitsuoka started life as a replica car builder, converting big Nissans to resemble Daimlers, and tiny Daihatsus to look like Rileys. Now, it is regarded as Japan’s 10th official motor manufacturer – and the hand-built Orochi is its wildest model ever! The Honda NSX-inspired coupĂ© is being billed as a supercar, and even though it made its official debut at the Tokyo Motor Show back in 2001, it has only just landed in Japanese showrooms. It’s already making quite an impact, as pedestrians couldn’t take their eyes off the stunning two-seater during our exclusive drive along the streets of Tokyo. It’s easy to see why, because the distinctive grille, twin headlamps and swooping bodywork are all designed to grab your attention. The circular light clusters and vertical window at the back are clearly inspired by old Ferraris, and the attention the Orochi attracts puts it on a par with any of Italy’s legendary marques.Open the door, however, and that impression quickly begins to fade. As with supercars of old, climbing aboard requires the flexibility of a gymnast, thanks to its wide sills and low ride height, and once inside, the cabin is a disappointment. There’s plenty of leather, and build quality is impressive, but it fails to match the drama and excitement of the exterior. The gear selector for the five-speed automatic box is sourced from a Lexus RX off-roader – and provides the first hint that outright performance has been sacrificed for comfort. The Orochi is powered by a Lexus 3.3-litre V6 engine where you would hope to find something with at least an extra pair of cylinders. So although its mid-engined layout and outrageous styling scream to you supercar, the Mitsuoka’s 231bhp powerplant does anything but. Its modest output and 327Nm of torque result in frustrating performance. The Orochi is the brainchild of company founder Susumu Mitsuoka. It’s the result of his desire to build a vehicle that anyone can drive – and this idea has been followed to the letter. Where you expect the car to be a bruiser, it’s actually a cruiser. The benchmark 0-60mph sprint takes a rather lengthy 7.0 seconds, and the exhaust note is also short on drama.
That’s a shame because the newcomer’s spaceframe chassis sits on race-style double wishbone suspension, and has been tuned by a former Mazda chief test driver. As a result, the Orochi rides exceptionally well, and while it won’t win any awards for its ultimate cornering ability, it strikes a fine balance between comfort and handling. It feels superbly planted through fast bends, but lacks the involvement of an out-and-out sports car.Brakes borrowed from the Honda Legend deliver confidence-inspiring stopping ability, and they are more than up to the task. The trouble is, the Mitsuoka is heavier, slower and less practical than the Honda NSX, even though the Orochi boasts its own unique underpinnings. Yet in spite of this, the machine has still proved an enormous success in Japan, where standing out from the crowd is what really matters. The company is already selling all the cars it can build, and is preparing to boost output to six models a week in the months ahead. It’s just a shame there isn’t a more extreme version that delivers the performance capable of matching its sensational looks.Rival: Porsche 911germany’s best-known supercar sets the class standard for driver involvement, and despite its familiar looks, the 911 trumps the Mitsuoka from behind the wheel. With a broad line-up, it’s also likely to hold its value better than the unknown Orochi – but is far more expensive

Audi Max4

The Audi A1 by Jacek Peplowski (Poland) is a mix between an urban coupe and a compact crossover. The clean side shapes are crossed by sloped lines that add a dynamic and sporty look. Among the design cues are the muscular wheelarches, the minimal overhangs, the panoramic windshield and the door handles, integrated in the upper side of the high waistline.
The Concept by Jay Wen-Chieh Wen (New Zealand) makes use of tense lines and acute angles - for instance in the headlights and the glass surfaces contours. The design language is characterized by strong chromatic contrasts and by the new double-framed grille. The result is a dynamic car for young and individualist drivers.

Mercedes

CAR Online has obtained the best info yet on Mercedes’ new AMG ‘Gullwing’ supercar. Depicted in our artist’s impression, the super coupe is codenamed C197 and will make its debut at the 2010 Geneva motor show; a roadster tagged R197 follows a year later. The new two-seater will be badged an AMG, not as a Mercedes (our artist’s impression still displays the Merc star). It’s thus the first standalone product of the go-faster department – and it probably won’t be the last. The coupe and roadster will cost around the same as a well-equipped Porsche 911 Turbo – the target is €150,000 (£105,000) – and in size they are closer to the SLR than the SL.

How big’s the new Gullwing, then?
CAR Online has seen documents spelling out the pair’s dimensions:• Length 4650mm• Width 1950mm• Height 1250mm• Wheelbase 2700mm• Luggage capacity 200 litres (coupe), 175 litres (roadster)That’s quite a big car, then, but it will, intriguingly, be even lighter than the SLR. The target weight for the engineers is 1650kg – 45 kilos less than an SLR and 235kg less than an SL55.How do they do it? By introducing a brand-new advanced aluminium spaceframe technology which is allegedly even more rigid than that carbon fibre tub designed in Woking.
